Earlier this week on a chilly November day, my film class went on a trip to visit Image Engine. They are a visual effects and animation studio that has worked on numerous movies such as Jurassic World, Independence Day, and among others.

After, we visited a professional make up artist and her apprentice. We were going to become zombified! Half the class was separated into zombies/victims and film crew. I was put into the zombie group and needless to say, it was a lot of fun! It was a shock when I looked at myself in the mirror after the makeup had been applied to me, I looked completely different!

The process of becoming a zombie took nearly two hours! First, dark purple paint was applied under my eye to give me a haunted look. The same color was used to accentuate my facial lines. Next, some silicone hardener was applied onto our faces to give texture and would be the base for gashes. Then, my partner painted veins onto my face using a green-blue color. Lastly, we were given 2 fake blood consistencies, one that was like jam and the other was liquid. The jam-like mixture was applied liberally onto the gashes. We decided that dripping the liquid blood down my face would give a cool effect, although it was very hard to control!

Afterwards, the collective class shot a short zombie film within an hour. It was very difficult organizing 20 people, but we somehow managed to get it done! Overall, this was a great experience and I would love to do it again!
