Post Secret

As final exams approach, I've used art projects as a way to decompress. I was assigned a project called "Post Secrets" where a man named Frank Warren started in 2005. He started an initiative where people would mail their secrets on a postcard to strangers, many of which are displayed on the postsecret.com website.

I decided to illustrate my shopping addiction through the words, "I can't stop." Whenever I walk into a shop, I'm assaulted with goods and clothing. I feel like I must buy everything and "can't stop." Over the past few years, I've saved receipts and price tags which is a testament of a mindless consumer I am. Not only is this post secret an art project, but also a therapeutic piece about my habits and the process allowed me to reflect on my addition.

The overall composition of the post secret is messy and busy. It mimics the atmosphere I feel whenever I visit a mall. I've added various receipts for the background, price tags around, and sale signs from magazines. The large red bow on the upper left corner was from a holiday spread and the bold red lines help bring unity to the piece. If I were to improve on anything, I would've made the "I can't stop" text a lot more visible since right now, it blends in with the entire piece.
