This is one of the five works in my concentration. In traditional Chinese depictions of dragons, they are often holding a pearl. These orbs represent abstract concepts like spirituality, power, and energy. Through the emphasis on the orb, I altered the meaning of this pearl. I made to represent the unification of both my Western and Eastern identities. This differs from the other pieces in my concentration because it implies the unity rather than depicting the actual convergence. The dragon represents me, and the pearl represents the Canadian culture that appears foreign. The works in my concentration all feature some sort of red color scheme which is a reference to the similar red found on both the Canadian and Hong Kong flag. The texture outlining the dragon was achieved using a painting knife and scraping the canvas with rough, sudden motions.
