On May 1st, 2016, there was a chaotic fire that started near the small community that is Fort McMurray. Unable to control the flames, the fire wiped the area of its former self and became one of the costliest disasters in Canadian history. Fortunately, there were no deaths. Even so, the damage was done. Entire neighborhoods became unrecognizable as residents were forcibly displaced.
This painting is a tribute for those who lost their homes.
With the heated glow on their backs and the ashen smoke clouding the sky, the small family summons the resolve inside and look towards the new task of rebuilding. The fire may have taken their land, but it didn't take their unwavering resilience which strengthens them to continue on.
